About this spot

Stavoren is one of the oldest of the eleven historical cities in the Dutch province of Fryslân (Friesland). The town was founded around 900 on a watercourse and acquired town rights between 1058 and 1068. Today, tourism is one of the town's main sources of income. Several marinas were built on the outskirts of Stavoren.

At Stavoren ends the Johan-Frisokanaal, which is one of the connections of the IJsselmeer with the Prinses-Margrietkanaal and thus establishes a waterway connection to Ljouwert and Groningen.
